Politischer Status quo

Politischer Status quo: 1981 Britisches Abhängiges Gebiet [British dependent territory (BDT)], 2002 in Britisches Überseeterritorium [British Overseas Territory (BOT) bzw. UK Overseas Territory (OTs)] umbenannt[1] – seit 1980 von Mauritius 🇲🇺 beansprucht[2] – 2019 Internationaler Gerichtshof (IGH) erklärt in einem völkerrechtlich nicht bindenden Gutachten den Anspruch des Vereinigten Königreiches auf die Chagos-Inseln als rechtswidrig und die Weiterverwendung der Inselgruppe durch das britische und US-amerikanische Militär als ein Relikt des Kolonialismus, Mauritius obliege die rechtmäßige Verwaltung der Inselgruppe, UN-Vollversammlung fordert, die koloniale Verwaltung (bis Ende 2019) zu beenden, 2021 Internationaler Seegerichtshof (ISGH) bestätigt die Souveränität Mauritius‘ über die Chagos-Inseln[3]
